18 Months of Impact: Learn How KTF Translates SRHR Knowledge into Action

“Translating knowledge into action is the cornerstone of advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) worldwide,” states Dr. Farhana Huq on the Knowledge Translation Fund (KTF). Over 18 months between 2023 and 2024, the KTF empowered Share-Net country hubs across Jordan, Colombia, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Burkina Faso to pilot innovative methodologies for bridging the gap between research and practice.

On December 3, 2024, from 15.00 to 17.00 CET, Share-Net International will host the global virtual event “Strategies for Change: The Knowledge Translation Fund Journey” to highlight the outcomes, processes, and lessons learned. The initiative reflects an urgent global need to address gaps in SRHR knowledge implementation.

One of KTF’s standout projects, hosted by Share-Net Bangladesh, culminated in the Regional Knowledge Translation Conference 2024 on October 3 at Sheraton Dhaka. The South Asia region focused on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), a critical tool for promoting sexual health, reproductive rights, and gender equity. CSE equips young people with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about their health and relationships, countering deep-seated stigma and misinformation in the region.

The upcoming virtual event promises to provide an international platform to examine each country hub’s unique KTF journey. Experts, practitioners, and stakeholders will discuss key challenges and successes in translating SRHR knowledge into policy and practice. Aimed not just at outcomes but at highlighting the methodologies that worked best, the event underscores how tailored approaches are crucial in navigating distinct socio-cultural and policy landscapes.

Crucially, the event is bilingual, offering live interpretation in Spanish and French to ensure wider accessibility and inclusion.

The KTF’s relevance cannot be overstated in today’s context. With sexual and reproductive health often marginalised globally, the fund exemplifies how co-creation among researchers, practitioners, and communities can lead to impactful solutions. It reflects an understanding that no one-size-fits-all approach can solve SRHR challenges, especially in diverse national contexts.

This initiative underscores the role of evidence-based advocacy, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and contextual adaptability in reshaping SRHR policies and practices. By focusing on comprehensive approaches like CSE, it addresses core barriers to achieving reproductive rights and equity for all.
